"❗️The mother of martyred journalist Anas al-Sharif recounted the moment she knew in her heart her son had been killed by the Israeli terrorist state. “The phone rang and they said Anas was martyred in the tent,” she said. “I didn’t believe it. I kept saying, ‘No, Anas is alive.’” That night, she sat in shock, throwing up repeatedly as conflicting reports filled the air. Just days earlier, Anas had visited her briefly. “He looked tired and thin,” she recalled. “He told me, ‘There’s no water or food… but we are sacrifices for this homeland.’” Anas was offered a way out of Gaza with his wife, children, and mother, but refused. “This is unacceptable,” he told his wife. “I will stay in Gaza. I will carry on.” Source: a. j. press (IG)" - Source
Around 11:20 pm, an Israeli airstrike targeted the tent o Al-Jazeera's staff at Al-Shifa Medical Complex, killing 6 journalists including renowned Al-Jazeera correspondents Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Qriqea.
The massacre also injured journalists Ahmad Al-Harazin, Mohammad Sobh, and Mohammad Qayta.
The IDF assassinated them after a long campaign of incitement— and murder—against Palestinians journalists, particularly Anas whom it accused repeatedly and without evidence of being an agent of Hamas.
The assassination came on the anniversary of one of Israel's most gruesome massacres at Al-Tabi'in school where Anas had documented some of his most poignant reporting. Shortly after the latter, the IDF's arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee incited against Anas, and continued to do so several times throughout the next 12 months. The IDF put Anas on a kill-list of journalists and continued inciting against Anas after his reporting on the devastating effects of Israel's starvation policy starting late July.
Former US army EOD export Trevor Ball noted that the damage pattern seen in the aftermath is "consistent with an Israeli Mikholit bomb. They've (IDF) also used the Mikholit is similar strikes on media tents in the past."
